ICE Malta, local partners for Europe Code Week 2013

As part of the 2013/2014 academic year events, ICE Malta is proud to be titled local partners for ‘Europe’s Code Week’ celebrated between the 25th and 30th November 2013.
‘All over Europe, computer programming is being heralded as the new literacy, yet it is still widely perceived as a skill that can only mastered with a computer science degree, this is also the case in the Maltese islands. With the wider availability of internet connectivity and freely available, easy to use technologies, this is no longer the case. During this celebration week, we want to communicate that computer programming is a fun, creative way of making ideas happen’ Nikolai Sammut, director of ICE Malta.
As partners for this unique week of events, ICE Malta will be organizing an information session with GFI’s Software Director of Talent Management who will meet ICE Malta students and coding enthusiasts to share experiences and discuss career opportunities. ‘We would like to encourage students, organizations and schools to design events and information workshops during this dedicated week and help us put the Maltese islands on the ICT map. The end goal is to improve the visibility of coding on a national and European scale, motivate people to start learning to code, and connect individuals, groups, organizations, and companies who are willing to share good practices and help more people experience the joy and relevance of coding.’
Europe Code Week was launched by Neelie Kroes’ Young Advisors with the support from DG Connect at the European Commission. Schools, groups and educational entities interested in organizing events may send an email to info@icemalta.com
